SHORT-COATED MOLOSSERS

__________

Accordingly to my experience, short-coated Molossian breeds of medium to large size have the best character endowments. Sheepherding breeds and Owtcharkas (long-coated Molossers) are less trustworthy and mentally unstable (if we consider their too dangerous reaction while attacking a human, the goal of which is often the throat, face or the head).

Because the largest Molossers are too much care- and food-demanding, I listed here only the medium to large sized ones. I believe it is suitable to choose as a companion and a defender such a breed in which the power of true Molossers is joined with the rapidness and movability of smaller breeds. To be such a breed that is not only strong but also rapid and that is neither too clumpy nor too food-demanding. Among such breeds we can find these: American Bulldog, Bandogge (Swinford and trublue, above all), Boerboel, Bull Mastiff (Bullmastiff), Cane Corso, Dogue de Bordeaux (French Mastiff, French Bulldog), Fila Brasileiro, English Mastweiler, Neapolitan Mastiff (Mastino Napoletano), Perro de Presa (Canario and Malorquin) and Rottweiler. I removed from the list Great Swiss Mountain Dog because it is not that sharp with strangers and Tosa Inu because although being an excellent fighter, it's defense abilities are not that good. And defense is the most important merit out of all.

Although the medium to large sized short-coated Molossers are ideal breeds, there are people who appreciate their splendid nature in a rather smaller style, especially when they live in a city's flat. Then American Staffordshire Terrier and Boxer - though already weaker short-coated Molossers - will be the suitable companions for such people.
