Defense (Of The Owner, His Or Her Family And Property)

Disclaimer: This writing about defense (Schutzhund, bite work and protection training) arose from discussion forums about dogs and from personal experiences / opinions of several people and is serving educational purposes only. It's goal is to inform the reader about our personal opinion on this subject, but on the first place about the importance of defense training in dogs. However, our information is no oficially recommendable way how to train dogs in this respect, so that we do not warrant or assume any legal liability or responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, safety or usefulness of any posted information. Anyway, when teaching the dog defense, everyone must always go by all the valid laws (for example, protective clothes biting can be banned in the country where he or she lives and so on).

Dog versus dog is the favorite talking subject of some fighting breeds' owners, above all. The ability to beat the other dog is a very appreciated dog's merit. But I am convinced that the dog's ability to defend it's owner and his or her possession and family should be on the first place, that is dog versus man. The probability that your dog will have to defend you against some other dog is lower, than that it will have to defend you against a human. Therefore the dog's ability to fight other dogs is less important than it's ability to defend you against other people. Do you agree?

[Please forgive me that I have not placed here more photos of "real appearance situation" or "Schutzhund training on the street" so far, because although I put it into practice with my own dogs 10 - 15 years ago (CO and RTW), I did not have any good camera at that time to record it (defense training in the train, on the street full of people in the town etc).]

Why do we want to have a sharp dog? Because a danger from other people (animals eventually) threatens us. Some of them are robbing, killing, doing a harm to the other and they can do it to us as well. If there were on the world no thieves, murderers etc., there would be no danger that other people could threaten us. Then we would cease to want to have good defenders, and companion breeds that train the agility only would do.

From the defense viewpoint, there are three main groups of dogs:

1) Dogs that attack almost everybody. Statistics however proved that these dogs bite innocent people more often than real bad guys.

2) Dogs that are half-sharp. On the one hand, they are still half-way socialized, on the other hand not reliable fully when in defense, although already partially usable against a human enemy.

3) Dogs that do not defend. Either they are timorous or too phlegmatic or, on the other way round, too good.

Each group has it's advantage and disadvantage. Possibly, the second one may be the best (or the most reasonable), but only if you do not have real enemies, of course. If you do, then the first one is the best.

I know that modern defense training of dogs is bad due to more reasons. The first reason is no training looking like a real situation setting, that is defense training in natural environment - at home, on the garden, in the town street both in the day and in the night by means of a helper clothed in protective clothes hidden under normal ones (hidden body bite suit, tri-level or full body bite suit, or hidden bite sleeve at least), so that the situation will look truly to the dog. Above all, I think that the biting of visible sleeve only is detrimental to dogs (but hidden sleeve is much better no doubt). It is better to train the biting of full body bite suit, since the dog is allowed to bite the entire body of a helper.

Bite work on full bite suit (Cane Corso called Diamonte, the owner of which was Dan Kierstead):

protective clothes defense

The most important thing is that the dog should not train defense using it's hunting drive” or "prey drive" only (= to be fixed on the sleeve itself and at the same time to miss the sense for a real fight with a human), but with a sense for the paralyzation of human enemy - "fighting drive" (the dog is not to see a prey in the sleeve, but it is to see the enemy in the helper whom it tries to bite).

In less aggressive breeds of dog, the aggression should be much developed (e.g. Bernese Mountain Dog), in naturally protective breeds (e.g. Rottweiler) is either developed also or do not suppressed at least. The basic rule has to be kept here that the dog should (in ideal case) NEVER be fondled nor fed by a stranger (especially when a young and growing-up puppy), and no strangers are allowed to enter it's holding that it watches.

______________________________________________________________

An excerpt from "Aggression" and several more additional infos:

If you want your dog to properly watch you and your property, you should keep the following rules:

1) Your home your castle. So let it be watched by a splendid dog that likes this work of it's. Never let strangers enter your house. If yes, lock your dog in the run to prevent it's direct contact with the people. Let it feel free to bite everybody who will get into your premise.

2) Never allow your dog to be fed or fondled by strangers. You can train that in this way: A helper clothed in a normally-looking clothes - once a man, another time a kindly speaking woman - is giving your dog a piece of food and when it wants to accept it, the helper hits your dog or pulls it's skin (at this moment, the dog has to attack the helper and you have to praise it for that). In this way, your dog will get used to the fact that if a stranger gives it a food, he or she can have bad intentions. For there are people who try to become friends with your dog by giving it a feeding and later they are going to abuse your dog's being used to them and it's expecting of food from them.

3) Never allow your dog to become a friend with your neighbors or friends. In the course of time, the situation may change and erstwhile friendly neighbors or friends can turn into enemies. Then you will really appreciate that your dog does not like them.

[When defense training of your domestic territory, the helper - intruder - with a hidden protective bite suit under his normal clothes - not only hits the fence but also jumps over it or even unlocks the door by his own key and tries to give the dog food, and only then he attacks the dog and let himself be overpowered by it.]

[The helper can even call the dog by it's own name before the fight. Or you can even record your own voice and let the helper let your dog listen to that, and it will then be used to ignore your voice if it is not pronounced by you personally (I have seen a dog that ignored all the sounds from PC, tape recorder and similarly, even if it dealt with the voice of it's own owner, but I am not sure how it would look like with his holographic projection for a change).]

I know about several situations when normally trained dogs failed: a secret female agent got into a premise watched by a dog. She kindly spoke to it and gave it a piece of meat. The dog neither barked at her. Another secret male agent drove a car slowly along the street in the white day where a victim walked her dog. He stopped his car at the victim and began to kindly spoke to her. Her socialized dog showed no aggressivity and was unobservant. Another agent got into the flat of another victim that was not at home. Her dog was at home, but accepted food from the agent and let him enter it's owner's room.

To confuse their victims, secret mafia as well as some bad people use for their work such persons who look absolutely inconspicuously: young (half-adult) persons and women (sometimes even young mothers with small children) who for example have a carry-bag with meat in their hands to confuse the dog. It is proven that people - generally men - are underestimating these women and often do not take them for a threat and trust them. That is why it is necessary to train the dog to distrust women too (most of dogs are more aggressive towards men only). Because of this, it is necessary to train the dog using several good female helpers which alternate in particular Schutzhund tasks (one time you go by tram and a female helper takes a place next to you keeping a carry-bag with meet in her hand and all of a sudden she attacks you; another time you go along the street and another female helper slightly and gradually approaches you and kindly speaks to you and tries to touch your dog and if it does not attack her then she pulls it's skin so hard and long until the dog does not begin to snap after her; other time a different female helper stands several meters from you together with her female friend and they both speak together for a half of hour and your dog probably stops it's taking care of them and all of a sudden, the female helper attacks you and your dog has to bite her and so on). Sometimes, the bad people can also use a woman walking a small dog who is unleashed and runs to your dog. Then the woman approaches you with a seeming purpose to catch her dog only but the real purpose was to come as close to you as possible to touch you or your dog while she grasps her own dog. These people know that most dogs will not pay attention to them if another dog or a bitch in freaking time is set in front of them (because of this, Mr. "Trocha do mlyna" recommends to have two dogs to defend / guard - both male and female). That is why the dog-defender should be learned to pay it's attention to not only other dogs but to the people who walk them as well. This can be learned too (male or female helper is walking his or her dog and releases it and it runs to your dog; if your dog only pays attention to it ignoring the helper, he or she attacks your dog by pulling it's skin and it should then attack / bite the helper).

Sometimes it can happen that some guy wants to attack you together with his dog. So it is suitable to have as strong a dog as possible to be able to beat both the other guy's dog and the guy himself at once. Most people have RTW, GSD, sometimes Malinois and similarly so if you have dogs like CO, CAO or Kangal, they can mostly handle them all.

For this purpose, training on a leash with a muzzle is used. The helper is holding an angry muzzled dog on a leash and your dog has to alternate the attack on the helper's dog with the attack on the helper himself.

It is a mistake when the dog only defends when he is commanded so. The dog must also be able to behave independently by his own judgement. For example, someone will hit you and you will lose your consciousness and you won't be able to command the dog to defend you. The dog must attack strangers by himself without any command if he sees that you are in danger.

It is also good when your dog is aggressive toward the other dogs because when someone tries to approach you with bad intentions and has a dog too relying that your dog will play with his or her dog, then it is good when your dog will attack his or her dog and then the person too.

The dog is not to be the only active factor. Sometimes the owner should help his dog if a numerous supremacy of enemies. Therefore the owner sometimes has to scream on the helpers and then fight them, and the dog has to orientate in the situation and bite the helpers all the time when his owner fights them.

______________________________________________________________

It is said that attack is the best defense and the main rule runs as follows: "Every proper defender must consider every stranger a possible danger to it's master". There is no other way for the dog to defend the owner fully except for aggression and/or attack towards all the strange people who are getting close to him. If your dog will attack all people*, only then you will have the certainty that it will attack also him who wants to do harm to you. The reason is that that almost no dog is able to recognize perfectly who has bad intentions about it's owner since really clever evil-doers dissimulate and do not do any quick movements to provocate your dog. On the other hand, they use to speak kindly and make a kind face or even try to give your dog some dainty.

* Of course, you hold your dog securely on a leash and prevent him from biting people, but at the same time you know that it is able to bite them if they would try to attack or endanger you.

It is good to train the dogs in the town in the white day (http://security-dog.org/dressura/chempion/chemp_04_09_05/index.html):

Schutzhund training

To all those who only prefer good dogs and who disagree with aggressive dogs: I wish you to be attacked, robbed by somebody, and I wish that your neighbor (with whom you stupidly familiarised your dog) would break into your house when you are not at home. Only then you will realize, that the only true doggy friend is an aggressive dog that attacks all strange people.

Volks, if you wish your home to be safe, no dog itself can do that if there are real enemies or simply someone who has a good modern technical equipment (electroshock weapons like stun gun, taser gun, or other weapons like a hard staff with protective clothes of the intruder, drugs or simply normal gun to shoot the dog), the dog gets almost no chance. From this reason the owner has to support his dog by helping him. To stay safe at home, more things are necessary to be used at once: the best door locks, alarm, strong dogs (the owner should be taught to fight the enemies together with his dog) and the golden rule is that some human being must be at home 24/7 to prevent any breaking-in. The owner should have a weapon too, to support his dog when encounter with enemies. The more modern weapons will exist, the easier will be to paralyze any dog. And bad guys will have these weapons so you have to support your dog. Remember that once your home is protected only by the dog itself, it is not 100% safe. So people please let stay one of you at home all the time and do not accept any visitors.

I think that the laws should allow the owner to let his dog bite anybody who will get to his premise without permission and to use a weapon if the guy has some weapon too. It is stupid to wait for the guy to start shooting because then it can already be too late for some action. Simply said, nobody can break your privacy and if he broke, your dog or you yourself should be allowed to take him down.

American Bulldog muzzle work bite work

New and better laws for us: In view of protection work, the laws should be changed. There are people who will come too close to the fence behind which your dog is barking and will touch the fence to let your dog tear their too expensive clothes (to cause you some financial damage). The same can happen if someone will come too close to you and you hold your dog on the leash but the person will deliberately come that close to you to let your dog hit her with muzzle or bite her and then she can complain about it.

Laws should secure dog owners: Nobody stange is allowed to touch your fence or to get under 1 meter from it. Nobody is allowed to come closer to you than two meters if you are holding a dog on the leash. On the other hand, there would be areas and town streets where a dangerous dog would not be allowed to be walked. Such laws would prevent other people to abuse the aggression of your dog. If a stranger came too close to you, you would not be responsible for any aggressive reaction of your dog and when on the premise the dog would be allowed to bite anyone without any legal consequences for you as the owner.

One Name's Story: (this story is partially true)

There was an old man who used to have a very dangerous and big dog who was able to bring down any human within seconds. Years were running and good dogs were wanted by other people and also this man like many other adapted to other people's opinion and began to breed companion and good dogs only. Everything seemed to work okay and to be fine with these dogs. Everything till the day when he found out that nothing is working with these dogs any more. Bad guys came for this man and the low power and weak heart of his companion dogs were not enough to stop them. And so little before the man died, all his memory belonged to the only creature on the world that could save him, and his old mouth was pronouncing the only one name. It was the name of the most aggressive dog that he has had when he was young, the only unstopable beast that could beat all the guys and save the wretched life of his master.

Do you also wanna be like this man? Do you want to be dying unprotected? Please consider whom you will choose for your defender. It has to be one of the elected breeds that I listed here and trained in the way that I described here. Some of you might say that they cannot afford any problems with aggressive dog. However, when a real enemy will come for you, can you afford to die?

**********

Our famous "Trocha do mlyna" again: "In the same way like an atheist during an assault by Romany people starts to pray, so is important a thought that a man in big problems remembers the greatest power that will become his armour and spear. Everybody says: it cannot happen to me. A lot of people even believe that it doesn't use to happen.

But then the moment of the worst jeopardy will come and there is nobody to help. And he who wants to, doesn't have the power (this is about companion and weak dogs - comment). We are a sand's corn that realizes the price of old doggy breeds, their faithfulness and loyalism. Therefore we are friends. Old Ovcharka-type of breeds not spoilt by civilization's time in the name of humanisation are not a step backward neither to the forward. They are a balance of our situation, they are a point, which the weak can lean on. They are in fact the top. It isn't true that we always ought to go to somewhere, we can already stop and begin to perceive and enjoy."

_____________________________________

The sharpness of many breeds is falling down. Excessive artificial / sporting obedience training as well as Schutzhund training at training area only damage dogs. By the words of “Trocha do mlyna”: „I would go with the change of cynology as a whole in the frame of shows and examinations etc. (I would keep the shows for Poodles and similar toys), but such pointless turning around the leg, look to the left, sit, get down etc., that all is wrong, too old and with no perspectivity to the future. Personally, I am a big opponent of all the training areas and examinations etc. (attention: this is not valid for beginners, there is that more than necessary).“ Accordingly to me, the important thing is to attune oneself with his or her dog, let it experience a few real situations (arranged ones respectively that looks truly to the dog), so that it would have to really fight, really defend it's owner and not only at the training area. Otherwise, the defense ability would decrease. Mr. “Trocha do mlyna” is disgusted with that: „How a Fila Brasileiro can allow the referee to touch it's teeth?! Then it deals with a putrid apple.“ Therefore I suggest breeders to remove all the dogs from breeding who do not snap after a strange person who tries to touch them or their owner; for example, this is valid for both the breed-judger who is trying to touch the dog in the show and for the conductor in the train who moves his hands toward you and similarly.

Hand biting and muzzle work by a Bull Mastiff (http://www.petsinform.com/ares/kardachi.htm):

Bull Mastiff muzzle work

In “Dog fighting” we have already got to the approximate idea of single groups of dogs as far as their ability to fight other dogs. But how much they are good at the defense? “Trocha do mlyna” says about this: „As we already have cleared it out, the kings of dog-versus-dog fights are largest sheep-herding breeds and Owtcharkas. I personally appreciate that they stand on the first place at the defense and guardian work too. But I would still (to compare the quality of respective breeds as far as the defense ability – comment) create the groups of defensive character against human enemies. The first group is a CO, Fila, the second CAO, Bandog, RTW, Dogo, GSD, Dobermann, Bull Mastiff, Presas, all the Molosses, a fantastic Cane Corso. The third AmStaff, Bull Terrier, Collie and others (I did not think of the force of attack, but of the judgement about the attack in the case of defense).“

If we compare the defensive abilities in breeds like giant shepherds and/or Ovtcharkas, for instance Caucasian Owtcharka, or on the other way round in breeds like short-coated Molosses e.g. Rottweiler, “Trocha do mlyna” says: „Caucasian Owtcharka is in comparison with Rottweiler as a Kalaschnikov compared to a 9 mm pistol, but both arms can kill.“

First a Caucasian Ovcharka and then a Central Asian Ovcharka during teasing and bite suit biting (dogs are held on a leash, otherwise they can attack the head; photos by Mr. and Mrs. Fronkovi “Pravo tesaku” the kennel http://www.pravo-tesaku.com/):

Let us take a look at the Caucasian Ovtcharka for the first. It is a very good guardian of large premises, it is able to attack the intruder on several hundreds meters distance (it simply goes for him that far). My CO Gero for example used to hide himself in the shadow of cars and approached the thief without any noise and jumped on him. In this way he has also beaten down a man when muzzled. When a CO is somewhere alone with it's master, it splendidly defends him by attacking everybody who gets near. But when in the white day on the town streets or in the train, it usually is not observant that much. For it does not manage to distinct very good when it is or is not to defend, but only if it is not trained for that. If it is, it can handle situations "among many people in the white day" too. I tried to learn him to bite the sleeve but when he was one year old he did not bite well (he began to be sharp about one year and half or even little later - these dogs do not mature as early as most of other breeds do), he simply did not want to hold the sleeve. Later I tried him on a biting roll using one experienced helper. Gero bit it and pulled, the helper leaned forward and Gero immediately released the biting roll and attacked the helper's throat. The helper dodged quickly and I pulled Gero away from him. But both clothes (the army masked ones) were torn near the throat. Then he said that he has never seen anything like that although he did the helper to many breeds. These dogs know very well that it has no sense to hold what is put in front of them by a man (a biting sleeve or a biting roll in given case). But they re-bite instinctively until they take a bite to the most vulnerable place. But now I have to add, too, that Gero almost killed my mother (I had stopped him at the last moment when he already tore her head and almost reached her throat). He was very dominant and respected only me.

Few photos of Gero:

Caucasian Owtcharka during teasing and sleeve-biting (pictures by Jana Zemanova):

CO teasing CO defense

As “Trocha do mlyna” claims: „Thanks to the rare presence of Ovtcharkas in the cities (and there were not too much tragedies), they are not medially labelled as dangerous, but at the same time it is clear how a thief - Ovtcharka confrontation would end like. I bet my shoes that it would be a death (in breeds of lower weight he has some chance to escape). But for example Asyryn calls attention to the difference between single Ovtcharkas and mentions here one Russian proverb about the difference between a CO and a CAO: 'There is a difference between a Caucasian and an Asian, the Russians themselves have a nice saying': „The Caucasian firstly bites and only then thinks, and the Asian firstly thinks and only then bites.”

The Rottweiler, on the contrary, has a better sense to recognize when it is or is not to defend (I think that the sharpness of Rotties is decreasing a bit too). My RTW Bredy bitten several people, I used him for a night police work. He has had only 40 kg but he was unyielding and incorruptible. When somebody tried to give him a food, he ignored it and attacked the man immediately. Only few dogs manage that! Once I have met a man who claims he will beat Bredy. It was an interesting fight. The man kicked Bredy away, pushed him down, but Bredy again jumped up and again snapped as long as he caught the hand of the man. Finally I had to tore Bredy off the man. And once he even managed to straighten a group of drunk people absolutely alone! For Rottweilers are really excellent defenders (fighting breeds are a far cry from them!).

Me with Bredy at work and Bredy close to the end of his life:

Pavel and Bredy Bredy

But I have to say, that I was nicely surprised by my German Shepherd Rex (only 32 kg, 62 cm) as well, when we both were attacked by a drunken hooligan. He waved with his arms and began to jostle to both of us. On the beginning, I held my dog and told the man to leave us. He did not cease and hit my dog's head for several times. Then I released the leash and Rex started out and bit the man's arm through. Then the man cooled down and returned to the pub where his wound was disinfected by a vodka. And gave us a peace.

Some thought that it is hardly possible to calm aggressive dogs if they attack a human (a problem to re-call them back), which is true partially. When the dog is really sharp and is fully tearing the enemies of it's master, calling it back may lasts for a while, but for example the RTW manages to return to peace quickly as soon as the fight is over (a well-balanced character is required).

“Trocha do mlyna” tells: „A thousand of the best alarms do not give so much peace for sleeping as a feeling that you have a truehearted and dauntless fighter near you that is able to fight for you up to the last breath.“ And where the feeling of certainty comes from?

When somebody lies nearest you who will fight for you and who likes you (apart from the fight, it also has a good sense of hearing and olfaction and may hear or smell your enemy in time - to wake up it's owner and he or she catches to aim the enemy with a shotgun), then sleeping really goes more easily. Whoever would go to attack you, only the feeling that you are not alone, that someone will fall for you and with you, it warms your heart. Here is an excerpt on dog's faithfulness from my short story called “How I Was Searching Love And How I Found It”: „I found love behind the bared teeth of a beast that had no mercy with anybody, but at the same time the heart softer and more beautiful than that of those female creatures with attractively rounded hips and beautiful breasts, the embrace more frank than that of all the human friends. Love that required neither money nor outside beauty from me. And that managed to forgive all the unfairness and betrayals better than people do.“

Our famous expert "Trocha do mlyna" again: "We do not live in such a world like we were told as young children. Simply, the world is not story for children and the dog is the best combination of a friend and a weapon. That is why they became our companions in olden times. The dog has to fulfill the main function of protection of the owner and his family."

Inscription on the Monument of a Newfoundland Dog by Lord Byron:

"When some proud son of man returns to earth,
Unknown to glory, but upheld by birth,
The sculptor's art exhausts the pomp of woe
And storied urns record who rest below:
When all is done, upon the tomb is seen,
Not what he was, but what he should have been:
But the poor dog, in life the firmest friend,
The first to welcome, foremost to defend,
Whose honest heart is still his master's own,
Who labours, fights, lives, breathes for him alone,
Unhonour'd falls, unnoticed all his worth--
Denied in heaven the soul he held on earth:
While Man, vain insect! hopes to be forgiven,
And claims himself a sole exclusive Heaven.
Oh Man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power,
Who knows thee well must quit thee with disgust,
     Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,
Thy smiles hypocrisy, thy words deceit!
By nature vile, ennobled but by name,
Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.
Ye! who perchance behold this simple urn,
Pass on--it honours none you wish to mourn:
     To mark a Friend's remains these stones arise;
I never knew but one,--and here he lies."

I stress the fact that if you have real enemies, all the normally trained and socialized dogs are for no use. It is nice when the dog obeys and is good with people, but when the murderer of it's master comes and it will let him enter into the house without any fight and takes a feeding from him or, my God, even wags with it's tail and even passes him it's paw, hardly any thing hurts that much like the owner's disappointment in his own dog.

“Trocha do mlyna” again: „It is good to see a APBT defense training (it is laughable), also Torin laughs at that and I am sure that there is a difference in it's defense and in the defense performed by a Fila, RTW, Dobermann, GSD etc. As I know also RTW manages to fight to the last breath while defending it's family (I think that it is the most important “game”).“

Teasing (Cinda and Mr. Ladislav Caslavsky):

To have a sharp dog is fine, it however is necessary to add, that if a man has a dangerous dog, he or she must secure it well to be unable to escape for example from the garden to the street and tear somebody there. Is it even possible to secure a dangerous dog in the way that it could never get out of the premise to the people outside? Is it possible to secure it during 100% of the dog's life time - all the locking of doors, the control of the fence and so on? “Trocha do mlyna”: "I personally consider myself a dangerous man (I allowed to call myself like that) and I would not have the certainty even against a GSD and much less against a CO, since you would not have to succeed in paralyzing it by a grip and it can pull itself out and tear your throat, and such an Ovcharka will not be frightened and what if it deals with a woman or a child. We must realize that a strong dog is a kind of a weapon that can be bought freely but it can start shooting by itself: it is necessary to have a large fence with the concrete under it and to precede everything at all the cases in all the circumstances and to be on the chessboard of life at least three moves before your dog and to solve all the situations preventively. Despite this everything can happen, nothing is hundred of percents sure (except for death), it depends on to how many percents we will help to make the entire result.“

These pictures show CO and CAO in action (visit Mrs. Vera Visocka's videoarchive http://www.volkodav-eagle.kiev.ua/htmls/rus/main.htm):

Central Asian bite work

To have a sharp dog it also requires some power to hold it (I have seen a woman that was not able to hold her New Foundland Dog; when he wanted to fight, he got out of her weak hands easily) and the knowledge of tactics how to hold the dog in the way to prevent it from getting out of your hands (some dogs move to the backwards and the muzzle as well as the collar can fall down over their head; in this moment it is necessary to slacken the leash and pull it again when the dog ceases to pull to the backward).

To could finally get to the conclusion about protective dogs, even if the conclusion results from the above-mentioned, let us concentrate on the already mentioned facts again.

There are written thousands bullshits in thousands books, but I do KNOW how it really looks like in reality. Have you ever seen a CO tearing the head of an innocent woman and the blood everywhere around? I have! I have seen crackdowns of COs and RTWs and there was a big difference in it. CO = explosion and bringing down a human like an animal and then no interest. RTW (or a short-coated Molosser) = lesser explosion but stable under all the circumstances even among lots of people in the white day, where some Ovtcharkas orientate worse.

Trocha do mlyna explains: „I would go with the idea about the dogs that are fit for us and for children especially. Yes, we all know who is the best etc. (Owtcharkas at dog fighting and in the liquidation of human enemies - comment), but in the beginning, your entire book was about why to choose the RTW and similar ones. They are the right ones for us as normal men who do not have   large pasturages neither security agency. Keep giant Shepherds in the light you introduced them in this book - as killers beyond compare, but not fit to our environment. They are not dogs of family, they are much self-reliant breeds (of course, they can also live in a family with children but their socialization is then very important), nevertheless they fall down in comparison with e.g. Cane Corso as far as relationship to children and family as such. When a normal thief, biting by the Rottweiler will do instead of the uncompromising impact of a CO. It is sufficient to just bite the thief (or a human enemy) and it is not necessary to mutilate or kill him like giant Shepherds and Ovtcharkas do it. Rottweilers are also used by Police because of their adequate defense. Ovcharka cannot know the adequate defense, since it had to defend through the centuries by the only one style -   the hardest one. They are not dogs of family as short-coated Molosses.” The living prove of this affirmation is a Moscow Watchdog (Moscovskaya Storozhevaya Sobaka), which is a CO x Saint Bernard cross (perhaps even mixed with a small percent of Russian hunting dog) because of the improvement of it's character.

I would like to add, that as for the Ovcharkas socialization, there is one big problem. If they are socialized properly and their nature softened, they can be bad defenders. And when their aggression is developed, then they are too dangerous. Therefore I find giant Shepherds and Ovcharkas unsuitable companions of people living in modern cities.
